The problem with admitting that past prophets were "men of their time" and that they are "fallible" is that it doesn't take a genius level intellect to realize that means the current prophet is also a man of his time and is fallible. What does that mean? It means I can't trust he's actually teaching truth, anything he says that matches what people strongly believed 30-50 years ago is likely just him talking as a man. This means it is guaranteed that in less than 100 years a gay couple will be sealed in the temple. I think it also means that coffee and tea and possibly red wine in moderation will be allowed for temple recommend holders because science has said for years now that all those things in moderation are good for you and many younger members of the church drink them and go to the temple anyway.
